Professor Martin S. Zinkernagel is chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University Hospital of Bern, Switzerland, and director of the internationally renowned Bern Photographic Reading Center at the University of Bern. He earned his MD from the University of Zurich and a PhD in ocular immunology and gene therapy from the University of Western Australia.
Professor Zinkernagel’s main clinical interests are vitreoretinal surgery, medical retina, ocular traumatology, and cataract surgery. His main research interests are retinal imaging, ophthalmic data analysis using artificial intelligence, and the influence of the gut microbiome in retinal disease. His basic science interests are ocular immunology and inflammation.
